It’s been one month since I started journaling.
In this article, I’ll talk about how I journal and what I write about.
Writing every morning
I write in my journal every morning around 5 a.m.
Right after waking up, I drink a glass of water and start writing.
I usually write for about 15 to 20 minutes.
I write while I’m still feeling a bit drowsy. It feels like I’m still in a dream, and I think I can write more honestly that way.
What I bought for journaling
I bought an A5-sized notebook and a black pen on Amazon for journaling.
Some people who journal prefer A4-sized notebooks without lines to write their thoughts more freely.
Using your favorite notebook makes it more exciting to start writing every morning!
What I write about
I write whatever I feel in the morning.
Some thoughts are negative, some are positive.
For example, I write about things that bothered me, difficulties, happy moments, and feelings of gratitude from the day before.
When I don’t complete my to-do list from the previous day, I write about my regrets and then create a new to-do list.
It doesn’t have to be written neatly. I just let the thoughts flow.
Although it’s not something I usually show others, here’s a glimpse of one of my journal entries…
I write about how I feel, what I want to do, and I always finish with my goals.

How to continue this habit
My recommendation is to start with just one minute of journaling.
You might not feel like writing right after waking up, but try journaling for just one minute.
Then you may feel like writing more. If not, that’s okay. Write about that feeling in your journal.
The important thing is to be honest with yourself.
Is it like meditation?
Some people say journaling is like meditation because it allows you to reflect internally while doing it.
Maybe that’s true.
I’ve only been journaling for a month, but I feel like I’m more organized with my thoughts and tasks for the day.
I’ve also been meditating for a few months, which I think helps clear my mind as well.
Right now, I do both every morning, but I’m experimenting to see if I need to continue both, or if one is enough.
I’ll write about the results later.
Achieving goals
What I find most important is writing down my dreams and goals.
When I’m half-asleep, I feel like I can write my dreams without hesitation.
According to some journaling enthusiasts, writing your dreams in red makes them more likely to enter your subconscious mind.
There’s also a concept in the book “The Method for Effortlessly Achieving Any Desire Automatically” that says by repeatedly turning your desires into words, they become imprinted in your subconscious, influencing your actions unconsciously.
I’ve been practicing this as well.
Journaling for the long term
I plan to continue journaling for the three months it will take to fill up my notebook, and then see the results.
If I like it, I’ll buy another notebook.
Journaling is not a diary. It’s not a record of what happened that day.
So, there’s no need to remember everything you did at the end of the day. You just write about what you feel.
Since it’s not about documenting events, it’s surprisingly easy to write.
